User's solution

Problem caused by corrupt .msc file extensions. Downloaded "fix" from http://www.dougknox.com/x...assoc.htm. Not sure of the cause of the corruption, but a recent Microsoft Update seems to be the favorite theory on other IT sites, depending on one's PC configuration.
