Error #69648

ssl_error_rx_record_too_long

My apache2 vhost ssl config was incorrect. This error came from Mozilla Firefox when I tried to hit my ssl site.

I looked in all my apache log files until I found the actual error (I had changed the <VirtualHost> from _default_ to my fqdn). When I fixed this error, everything worked fine.

I ran in to this as well and it turned out I had a non ssl site listening on port 443. For example: http://mysite:443/ That worked, not there's no https there. I just fixed my configs so no non-ssl sites were listening on port 443 and only ssl sites were listening on port 443.

Hi, thank you for your answer. How can I manage if I have the same site in SSL and non SSL modes? I mean I have only one folder in SSL the rest of the site is nonSSL. Thanks, Kostya.

It looks like if you add your fqdn to your hosts file and leave it in it will work as well <VirtualHost fqdn:443>

one of the worst solution where can we find <VirtualHost > in the hosting site

user65841 Apr 29, 2009

Ive rent web server+domain,i've configured ssl step by step via these cpanel including upload own certificate. I entered : http://example.com/ ->it works https://example.com/ ->it NOT worked http://example.com:443/ ->it CPANEL output, it says "Great Success ! Apache is working on your cPanel® and WHM™ Server",yeaaaaaahh i'm great confused. Yeah it really worked if in localhost (my PC)-> why? because we can change 'httpd.conf'. But in webserver ... WE CAN'T... step bystep ive do with cpanel: ssl/tls manager, generate key -> DONE ... it not work. Any idea??? BigThanks for this.

I had an <IfDefine SSL> directive in vhost config not working and therefor no SSL running for this vhost at :443. Adding -D SSL to the init.d/apache start script set the environment and <IfDefine SSL> work as therefor SSL without the error.

create ssl certificate for apache on ubuntu 8.04 : sudo mkdir /etc/apache2/ssl sudo /usr/sbin/make-ssl-cert /usr/share/ssl-cert/ssleay.cnf /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.pem cd /etc/apache2/sites-available cp default ssl edit ssl, add SSLEngine On SSLCertificateFile /etc/apache2/ssl/apache.pem enable site, a2ensite ssl you also need to change in ssl ... VirtualHost *:80 to... VirtualHost *:443 then restart/reload apache (khusyal singh from india)
