Frequently Asked Questions

What is ErrorHelp?
Just submit an error message and we'll do our best to find you a good workaround from someone else in the world.
What happened to "bug.gd"?
We renamed our service to ErrorHelp.com-- we hope you agree it's a much better name for our site.
Why do you ask for my email address?
That's how the best part of ErrorHelp works. We're going to remind you in 48 hours to come back and tell us what you did to survive the error message. Nine times out of ten, we assume, you figured out how to solve it or work around it. If you do, you can spare someone else a lot of grief by sharing your answer. If everyone helps, that's a lot of grief to be saved.
Are you going to sell my email address? Will you spam me with viagra ads?
No, never. We despise people who do that. As mentioned above, you will get a reminder email or two to come back to the site and help poor souls. That's the way the site works-- through your helpful generosity. We know you're busy so we send a reminder to come back and do the right thing.
Where can I get the Firefox extension?
The Firefox extension is the recommended way to use our site. You should install it from Mozilla's addons site.
How do I uninstall the ErrorHelp Firefox extension if I get tired of it?
If you do uninstall, please tell us why! Use the "Feedback" link in the top of our site. We really want to make it the easiest way to search for errors. Mozilla has a great reference for uninstalling extensions:

Wow. This is a really neat idea. I want an internal version of ErrorHelp for my company. How do I get it?
Yeah, you're right. This service is about ten times cooler inside a company. Imagine if whenever you ran into a problem with a company app or your own software during testing, you can instantly find coworkers who had the same problem. Even if they didn't solve it, getting in touch with them could save you a day or more of grief.

If you'd like ErrorHelp for your intranet, you should email us at corp@errorhelp.com. If your CEO saves himself two hours of frustration at the help desk, you might land yourself a raise.

In the future, what are some of the other ways this could be used?
Imagine a world where all your command-line tools and software automatically connect you to people with similar errors. Imagine compiling software and seeing a list of solutions for mysterious cryptic dependency errors. Imagine getting a PHP or Python error and automagically getting the best-guess help from others like you.

Humanity needs as much help as it can get. We're just getting started.
